opinions wanted 660 or 700 efi

I am going to do a swap on the 450. I have an opportunity to get a 660 or a 700 efi. Which way would you go! I'm looking for some top end.

Hey Darryl,

Have they got the 700's figured out with regard to the speed limiters and doing any mods IE: cam, piston?

Id go with a 660 myself if your looking for top end - The builders seem to have them dialed in pretty good. If your looking to keep it kinda stock the EFI would be my choice......

I'd talk to Shadow.. But I have run with a guy with a 700 that just had the MSD and Muzzy's and he could pull me on the trail and I just love the Yamaha FI system, works well and easy to tune!

660.... We all know and understand carbs....

I read that the FI on the 700 is a PITA..... Along with the rev limiter situation..... I would wait another year and let them get it dialed in....

Just my 2 cents....

I personally would go with the 700. It has potential just waiting to be unlocked. I love mine and without doing any motor mods it scoots just fine. It's much easier to tune IMHO, just push some buttons on the laptop to tune and go. Just my .02

I would agree the 700 feels more responsive off idle. Its also quieter with the airbox under the hood. - Id still go 660

I know I have done many trips with shadow and up until he added the Muzzy's and had ProShop Dyno tune his 700 my 660 was always faster. Even after all the work he has done he didnt pull me at the drags last month. He was faster but not by much. Now I would of figured he would of smoked my heavy ass 4 seater with his 700 2 seater but that wasnt the case........

it depends on the deal you can get on the engines -
if their the same price, hands down I'd get the 700 - Fuel injection is king. Sure everyone can mess with a carb, its much better to not have too

the 660's with a cdi will out pull a 700, but I believe thats because the cdi allows you to rev higher then 8500 rpm, which is only obtainable with a controller (like msd) on the 700's and they digitally lock the upper rpm where a cdi doesn't. Most people who program the controllers lock the upper limit at 8500 rpm -if that makes sense.

I have a buddy with a 4 seater and l.t and we went out to and run mine against his and I beat him by like 4 plus rhinos with a flat rear tire on mine. I have some stuff done so as far as what's best I guess that depends on price ! If someone can find out what's holding the 700 back then it would be the hot ticket but until then I think the 660 has a lot to offer
