not necessarly.
I had a crossbow, and with a rasorback 5, it could easily kill a dog instantly.

I was more questioning the picking the lock, even someone really good would take more then a couple seconds - I know my wife is a really light sleeper and no one could make it in before we were up and prepared.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it does sound a little fishy.
I know there has been lots of theft all over the dez, but usually its a grab and dash of whats available outside the haulers.
